Menu Planning

I’m getting back in the swing of the menu planning, having taken most of December off.  This is what we are having in the next 3 weeks in no real order

week 1 – this week

Chicken fried steak & scalloped potatoes

Fish Meunier with couscous & carrots

Pretzel crusted chicken with pan roasted broccoli

Short rib ragu & gnocchi

Shrimp scampi & thin spaghetti with spinach salad

Bacon & sweet potato hash with spinach & eggs

Carrot soup, miso flavored with quinoa bread

week 2 – next week

Broccoli-cheddar soup with rye bread

Beef & cider pot with spinach salad

Stuffed chicken breast with roasted beets

Turkey & sage rolls with roasted cauliflower

Steak & Guinness pie (weekend as it takes forever to make)

Braised pork loin with skillet carrots & parsnips

Hot turkey sandwiches with cranberry salsa & leftover carrot soup

week 3 – the following week

Butternut Squash soup with sourdough bread

Grilled skirt steak with blue cheese biscuits and leftover broccoli soup

Salmon with lentils & spinach

Pork chops with risotto & carrots

Chicken & dumplings

Turkey cutlets with cranberry salsa

Homemade mac & cheese and spinach salad

If I can manage it I am also going to make some toffee chocolate chip bars & some chocolate banana bread.

I’m going for 3 weeks right now because I have something new & different going on in my life & I need to be more organized with my shopping & planning than usual.

I am working out of the house for the first time in 10 years!

Up until now I’ve worked from home, pretty much on my own schedule, so I could do as I pleased with shopping & the timing of starting meals. But now I need to be somewhere from 9 until 3 and it’s messing with my routine.

Especially since I still need to work out an hour a day to help my restless leg syndrome.

It’s a temporary job in customer service, which is fine for me; I’m good at customer service.  I also have the opportunity to do data entry, another of my skills, and possibly tech support. These would be the skills I have utilized in every job I have held since 1992.

Eventually I might be able to work from home for this company, which would be even better. I can already do the data entry at home but right now they need someone in the office to help field the sudden increase in calls.

This company has made some changes to it’s pricing & right now I am taking & returning calls from customers who are angry, or confused or best of all – angry AND confused.

Good times, people, good times.

I’ve had several people say they are so angry they are going to write their Congressman about it. Now, what they expect from an entity that doesn’t seem to accomplish much more than voting themselves raises is beyond me. But I tend to believe Congress mostly exists to give angry people a place to write letters, so I suppose that’s ok.

I was even shouted at in German!

How can you not love a job that lets you randomly get shouted at in a foreign language?

Haven’t been cussed out yet, but it’s early days.

I’m hoping to get a few weeks work out of this. I’ve decided to start saving up for a new fridge & a few weeks of additional income would go nicely with the $11.57 I have saved so far.

  • Best of luck with the job!

  • I’d love the recipe for the bleu cheese biscuits! The Pirate goes back to school tomorrow so I need to get back to healthy menu planning for the Chosen One and me. Love that you have a way to more quickly build up that fridge fund!

  • Oh I totally get yelled at every day at work. This is the start of the semester and despite it being COLLEGE, people assume we’re here to hold your hand. Nope. At this point, a certain level of reading comprehension is required and if you can’t understand the line saying your book is required and yes, you need the access code with the book because you are taking the class online and and that’s how you take your tests? Then maybe you should just drop out now. :) Oh no, the BEST is when second year accounting students can’t count money OR write a check on their own. It’s a special kind of hilarious.

  • I try hard to remember that people who answer phones are like me – people. Hope the job comes off and did you ask for a translation of the German?
