I’ve come to realize my life is just easier if I have lists around me.
I got away from the lists as I was sleeping more. The lists came about due to insomnia induced memory loss & I was thinking “Hey, you’re sleeping, so you’re also remembering.”
But there is too much to remember so I need to write it down and have it handy.
These are the meals I’ll be making over the next couple of weeks.
- Pot Roast
- Chicken Friend Steak
- Deep Dish Pizza
- Baked Fish
- Triangle Sandwiches
- Chinese Chicken & Shrimp
- Veal Positano
- Gnocci with Ragu
- Steak Bites
- Milk Braised Pork Loin
- Braised Chicken
- Mac & Cheese – Havoc is making
- Broccoli & Cheddar Soup with bread bowls – new recipe from Cooks Illustrated
I have this list posted on my fridge, along with a list of vegetables that are in the fridge – carrots, broccoli, cauliflower, turnips, parsnips, beets, leeks & a rutabaga. I have ingredients for everything on the list, except the bread bowls which I have to make myself. I can make anything from that list at any moment & I feel good about that. Over half those meals produce leftovers that can be lunch as well & I feel good about that as well.
I have a list on my pantry door of what is in my freezer, that is how I know I have everything I need for the menu. Normally I just guess I have the stuff & don’t look until it’s time to take the chicken from the freezer & that is when I realize that no, I don’t have any chicken. Or I keep buying cube steak when it is on sale thinking we are out of it, when we actually have 7 meals worth.
I am making a list of recipes in the Cook’s Illustrated book I want to try & then I am going to do the same with Rachel Ray’s 365 Meals book. I think this will work better than they recipe cards I had been doing. It’s less work & easier to see. If I like the recipe, then it can go on a card
Once that is done I need to work on getting lists of things for my photos & scrapping. And I need to inventory my yard & floss stash
And then there is the actual money budget.
Not looking forward to that list at all.

I gave up sleeping years ago and subsequently have the memory of a goldfish.
If it weren’t for lists I’d never remember to eat… or shower.
Soup in Bread Bowls sounds yummy. I’m inspired.
I couldn’t survive without lists. I have told the Chosen One that once the Pirate returns to college I am not shopping until we’ve eaten everything in the fridge, pantry and freezer (this makes him happy bec it means I am not spending $) I definitely need to inventory or we will be having an interesting mix for meals.
Seriously, I am in awe. I wish I was this organized! I love your foods you will be making as well! Some great stuff!
I’m definitely a list person. I started keeping them in a notebook/journal last year (instead of on scrap pieces of paper lying around), and that helped a lot.
